20    Alai trek

From their majestic ice citadels to their sweeping valleys, the mountains are the soul of Kyrgyzstan. Fearsome mountaineers’ pit their skills against peaks of over 7,000 meters while, far below, day trippers stroll in flower-strewn alpine valleys. Crystal clear lakes reflect the ever-changing sky and families set up yurt camps on the jailoo, high mountain pastures

Itinerary
Day 1 Arrival at the airport, drive to Bishkek (30 km from Airport to Bishkek) accommodation in a hotel in Bishkek. Lunch and dinner will be in the local restaurant.
Day 2 Early in the morning drive from Bishkek to Toktogul. On the way it is beautiful scenery of the Kyrgyz mountains. Lunch on the road. Dinner and accommodation in the guest house in Toktogul.
Day 3 Arrival in Osh in the afternoon, accommodation in apartment or guest house in Osh. A chance to relax, have a shower and lunch. Around 5-6pm a sightseeing tour around Osh, is including the very busy bazaar.

Day 4 Drive from Osh to Gulcho, approximately 3 hours by car. Drive over the Chyiyrchyck Pass (2400 m). Have lunch on the road. In the afternoon arrive at Chong-Karakol village. Overnight in Chong-Karakol, in the afternoon you can walk around and get acquainted with your horses.

 

Trek

Day 1 Your riding will begin with amazing view of Alai Mountains and you will be witness of it
riding from Chong-Karakol  to Chagyr Pass(2970m), then to Kyzyl-Alai Valley.
Overnight near Agachart River.

Day 2  Crossing Agachart River in the morning, your ride goes up to Agachart Pass (3600m) and the riders will be  astonished by the scenery of Alai mountain ranges and Lenin Peak which stretches out  from East to West for about 100 km. Then riding goes to Taldyk Valley.Camp at Kichi-Kashka-Suu  riverbank.

Day 3 From  Kichi-Kashka-Suu River to Katta-Boz Valley then up to Jiptik Valley. You will
be welcomed by shepherds for tea and share the their nomad way of life. Camp near Jiptik
River.

Day 4 Crossing Jiptik River then to Sary Mogol River. After Sary-Mogol River your riding goes up to Korumdu Valley then to Sary-Bulak jailoo (3400-3600m).

Day 5 Everyday breathing fresh mountains air, your riding goes towards Sary-Bulak Pass, then
to Kashka-Suu Valley. From Sary-Bulak hills you will see stunning view of the Peak     Lenin.   Overnight camp next to Balyk-Juugan River.

Day 6 Riding from Balyk-Juugan up to Kashka-Suu Valley, then to Kosh-Kol Pass (3900m). Camp in Dam jailoo coming down from the Pass. There is a possibility to meet shepherds, rest and talk, share their mountain life for couple of hours.

Day 7 From Dam jailoo ride down along the south side of Kyzyl-Suu.river. Overnight near Kyzyl-Suu River at the Korumdu-Chunkur plateau (2873m).

Day 8 Starting from Kyzyl-Suu River ride goes towards Korumdu jailoo and reaches Lenin Base Camp (3600m). Fantastic view of mountains will surround you from each side. Overnight near at the Lenin Base Camp.

Day 9 Leaving your luggage at Lenin Base Camp you ride up to Kyzyl-Bel Pass. You will reach the top of the Pass by foot because you will feel less oxygen from the altitude. You’ll watch from here Lenin Peak (7134m). After enjoying the view of the Peak you return back to Lenin
Base Camp.

Day 10 From Lenin Base Camp you ride across Tulpar-Kol and Kyzyl-Agyn Rivers, then you arrive in Sary-Mogol village after the last cross of the Kyzyl-Suu River. Overnight &
“banya” or “sauna” in Sary-Mogol village. End of the trek.

 

Day 5 Next day drive back to Osh. Stay at a hotel, relax and have dinner.

Day 6 Flight from Osh to Bishkek.

Day 7 Departure from Bishkek.

Please note that the flight ticket or the alternative car transfer, Bishkek-Osh-Bishkek, all accommodations, meals will not be included in the trek price.)

The trek includes:
Accommodation in the village  house at the end of the trek, accommodation in tents during the trek, English speaking tour guide, cook, horseman, 3 meals a day, tents, horses with all equipment, cooking equipment, first aid kit and visa support.

You need to bring:
Down jacket, warm sweater, warm sleeping bag, silk sleeping bag liner, rain gear (waterproof trousers should have an opening on the outside at the bottom of the leg in order to put on and take off without removing your trekking boots), 2-3 pairs of warm socks, waterproof trekking boots, gloves, sunglasses, sun cream with high UV-protection, lip balm with UV-protection, torch, personal medicine, metal water bottle (0.75 L), Therm-A-Rest mat, riding chaps, Micropure (or any other water purification)
