Horseback Riding in the Tien Shan

Kyrgyzstan is situated in northeast Central Asia where the majestic Tien-Shan
mountains reach to the sky with their snow-capped peaks. Mountains cover
93% of the republic's territory. This tour gives horseback riders a view
of Kyrgyzstan's nature in its pristine condition. The charm of the tour
is its ride through alpine meadows and high passes amidst virgin natural
surroundings. Every day new vistas of the Kyrgyz mountains open around
the corner. During your tour you will see the nomadic way of life of the
Kyrgyz people.
Level: After a
steep ascent at the start of the trek, the trail soon levels off to become
a wide grassy truck. On day 3 of the trek you will cross the 3800 m Tosor
Pass.
Itinerary
Day 1 From Barskoon
Village to the Barskoon Canyon. Drive up by car. Distance 5-6 km.
Time: 10-15 min. Get acquainted with the horses. On horseback for 2-3
hours to the Barskoon Valley, Kok-Dobo Valley and the Tash-Kechuu River
(3200 m). Amazing views of Lake Issyk-Kul. Meet shepherds and taste mare's
milk (kymyz). Overnight near the river in tents. Distance 25-35 km.
Time: 4-6 hours.
Day 2 From the
Tash-Kechuu River to the Altyn-Kungoi Pass (3400 m). Distance 25-30 km.
Time: 4-5 hours. Overnight at the beginning of Tosor Pass. Experience
the wildness of nature and feel youself free from everything.
Day 3 Tosor pass
(3800 m) to the Kerege-Tash Valley. Distance 35-40 km. Time: 5-6 hours.
Overnight near the Chunkur-Kol mountain lake. Along the way you will meet
yak shepherds and admire the hard but free life of the Kyrgyz people.
Day 4 Kerege-Tash
Canyon to the Sary-Moinok pass (3200 m). Distance 25-30 km. Time: 5-6
hours. Drive to Barskoon Village. Soak in a hot water bath, enjoy supper
and night in a private home.
During your horse riding trek we provide:
English speaking tour guide, cook, horseman, 3 meals a day, tents, cooking
equipment, horses with all equipment, first aid.
Need to bring
Down jacket and warm sweater, warm sleeping bags, rain gears, silk blanked
for inside sleeping bag, 2-3 pairs of warm socks, trekking waterproof
boots, gloves, sunglasses, suncream, flashlight, personal medicine, metal
water bottle (0,75 litters),Term-A-Rest mats, riding chaps, micro pure
(or any other water disinfections).
